Gift Buying Is All About Perspective

Christmas time is such an amazing time of year full of excitement and a little childhood magic, isn't it? But then there is the other side of Christmas which is the buying of gifts for those we love. We always want to get them something they will love, something that lights up their eyes and creates that look of joy that we all are striving for. And the one person we want to please the most is Mom.

As a Mom myself, I can tell you I've received a ton of gifts over the years from my own kids. One thing you really need to know is - no matter what you get your Mom, she is going to tell you she loves it. That's what we Moms do. Remember that pack of 10 scarves you bought for $1 for your Mom when you were 4? Odds are it wasn't something she wanted but I'll bet she told you how much she loved it, right? That's because it came from you and you are very important to your Mother.

But now you are older and you want to get something for your Mom that she is really going to love. Believe me, us Moms are all good with that idea! So, how do you know what your Mom is going to like? It's all about perspective.

At this point, I invite you to get yourself a pen and a piece of paper. We're going to figure out what your Mom likes and what she doesn't so you can find her the perfect Christmas gift.

1. HOBBIES

This is always a great place to start. Does she have any hobbies that she likes to do? Maybe she loves birdwatching or she is a scrap booker. Maybe baking is her hobby or gardening. Think about the things that your Mom likes to do when all the things she has to do are done. Does she sew? Does she paint? This step alone might help you figure out the perfect gift. If not...let's move on.

2. HABITS

When the work is done, does your Mom like to hang out watching t.v. or maybe reading a good book? Is your Mom someone who loves to workout? Knowing her habits can help you to pick something for her.

3. LISTEN

Another great way to come up with a great gift idea is to listen to your Mom. Does she complain about getting stuck in traffic? Maybe a Garmin would be a good gift to help her bypass the traffic and get her to her destination quicker. Just listening to the things that make her life difficult can give you good ideas for gifts. Find a solution to one of her problems with your present. She's sure to love it!

Following any of these steps is going to help to give you ideas of things she'd love to get from you. Just make sure you follow one last piece of advice. DON'T OVER THINK IT. Trust your instincts - you know your Mom and what her likes and dislikes are. Now that you have an idea, search around my site and see if you can find something that fits her. And, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
